Glycol Ether EB Acetate, also known in industry shorthand as EGBEA (Ethylene Glycol n-Butyl Ether Acetate), is a versatile solvent widely used in coatings, cleaners, and industrial applications. It belongs to the glycol ether ester family, which is prized for combining strong solvency with a favorable balance of evaporation rate, compatibility, and performance in complex formulations.
EGBEA is formed by esterification of Ethylene Glycol n-Butyl Ether (EGBE) with acetic acid—a process that produces a solvent with moderate polarity, good solubility for resins and oils, and a controlled evaporation rate that supports smooth film formation and strong coating flow. Because of these properties, Glycol Ether EB Acetate is used in a range of applications where effective solvency and controlled drying are critical.
EGBEA’s moderate evaporation rate makes it especially useful in systems that require open time (the working period before a surface skins over), ensuring coatings and finishes can be applied smoothly with fewer defects.
