Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid (LABSA) is a high-performance anionic surfactant used widely in household, commercial, and industrial cleaning formulations. It’s valued for strong wetting, emulsification, foaming, and grease-cutting performance.
LABSA is also commonly referred to as Dodecylbenzene Sulfonic Acid (DDBSA). In many commercial and industrial contexts, LABSA and DDBSA are used interchangeably because both names refer to alkylbenzene sulfonic acids used as detergent surfactants—often sold as technical mixtures with similar performance characteristics. “LABSA” is the broader industry term emphasizing the linear alkyl chain (a key feature for biodegradability and detergent performance), while “DDBSA” is a more specific naming convention that highlights a typical alkyl chain length (often in the C10–C13 range) used in detergent-grade material.
Functionally, LABSA works by reducing surface tension between water and oily soils, allowing water to better penetrate, lift, and disperse contaminants. This makes it a foundational ingredient in liquid and powder detergents as well as a range of industrial and institutional cleaners.
